About the Hypo gene
The Hypo is a recessive mutation in the central bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) that reduces melanin production. Because there is less black pigment, the underlying colours appear brighter and cleaner than they do on a normal dragon. It was the first bearded dragon morph introduced to the hobby.
Appearance
You can tell for sure by looking at the nails. A true Hypo has clear nails on every toe because it lacks the dark line that runs down a normal dragon's nail. The animal's base colour is more varied and brighter than a normal one. Depending on the animal, these tones range from yellows, oranges and reds to paler blues and near-white tones. Paired with Zero, it pushes toward a near-white animal.
Genetics
A bearded dragon must have two copies of Hypo to show the trait. Het Hypo, 50% Het Hypo and 66% Het Hypo all look like an ordinary bearded dragon.
