Zero Bearded Dragons for sale in the UK

Zero is a recessive mutation that takes off pattern and most of the colour at once, which puts it at the far end of the three patternless bearded dragon genes. It came out of Germany and reached American collections through Phantom Dragons, and it is the patternless morph most keepers search for by name.

Appearance

A good Zero is silver, an off white silver at its cleanest, with no spots, no barring and no markings down the sides. Others sit darker, into grey or a mousey brown, and the same animal lightens as it warms under the basking lamp, so a dragon photographed cold looks a shade or two duller than the one you collect. Against a Witblits the cue is the shoulder pads: a Zero keeps its dark front pads, a Witblits does not. Eyes and scales are normal. What sits alongside the gene changes the result more than anything else does. Add Hypo and the animal comes out close to brilliant white, add Translucent and it turns a purple grey, and an animal carrying both reads as a dusty lavender.

Genetics

Recessive, so a dragon shows Zero only with two copies. Het Zero, 50% Het Zero and 66% Het Zero animals look like any other dragon, and nobody can pick a carrier out of a clutch by eye. Zero and Witblits sit at separate loci, which is what makes the Wero possible: an animal homozygous for both genes at once, a morph in its own right rather than a Zero carrying Witblits. Silverback, the third patternless recessive, is a separate gene again. Hypo Zero is the combination that drives most of the demand, and Zero appears in longer stacks such as Hypo Trans Zero. Paradox, the random patching that follows no inheritance at all, shows most dramatically against a pale Zero.
