Genetic Stripe Bearded Dragons for sale in the UK

A central bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) with Genetic Stripe has two distinct stripes running down its back. This is a trait of pattern rather than colour. Because the reliability of passing this from parent to offspring is disputed, you accept that risk if you want one for a breeding project.

Appearance

From the neck, a stripe goes down each side of the spine. In the strongest examples, it continues onto the tail. The amount of showing varies a great deal. Some dragons have a full, clean line on each side, while others have only a partial or broken one. Some have none at all, even within one clutch from the same two parents. This stripe sits over the base colour or other trait the dragon already carries. How sharply it stands out depends on that base.

Genetics

While some breeders view Genetic Stripe as a simple dominant mutation, others describe it as a fixed polygenic pattern that does not breed like a single dominant gene. There is no recognised Het Genetic Stripe under either reading. Colour stripe and phantom stripe look similar but are different things: they come from the ordinary genes that set a dragon's markings and are not expected to breed true the way Genetic Stripe is meant to. Genetic Stripe combines freely with the bearded dragon's other traits. When stacked onto Translucent, it is common enough to have its own name in the trade, Thunderbolt.
