Het Super Stripe Crested Geckos for sale in the UK

The Super Stripe is a crested gecko pattern trait where a stripe splits the back in two. Between cream pinstripes, a thin stripe in the base colour of the animal runs along the centre of the dorsum. Quad stripes run along the sides. You can see a perfect example if the animal has all of it at once, including the dorsal stripe, full quad stripes and a 100% pinstripe.

Appearance

Because the central stripe defines the trait, it is also what gives the trait its name. This line usually matches the base colour of the gecko, while the dorsal edges stay cream. This means the pinstripe looks like a pale border on both sides of a darker line. From orange to cream or high white, the dorsum around the stripe is filled in. A cream lateral line runs along the middle of each flank. The animal still qualifies even if this line is not complete. The pinstripe can be full or pin-dashed. There are five clean stripes at its best: the dorsal stripe, two quad stripes and the two pinstripes. Many animals fall short of this, with a few missing pins at the base of the tail or dashed quad striping. On some, the central stripe thins over the lower quarter of the back and retreats to the edges of the pinstripe as it nears the tail base.

Genetics

Super Stripe is a recessive trait, meaning a het shows little sign of the gene it carries. For listing purposes, a visual animal is called Super Stripe, while carriers and possible carriers are listed as Het Super Stripe, 50% Het Super Stripe, 66% Het Super Stripe and Pos Het Super Stripe. No known complex is associated with it. However, its genetics are not fully settled. It sits very close to Emptyback and resembles it. Emptyback animals have also turned up in the collections working together on Super Stripe. It is still open whether Super Stripe is an Emptyback combination or a single recessive mutation.
