Reverse Pinstripe Crested Geckos for sale in the UK

A reverse pinstripe crested gecko has a shadow line of dark colour just outside and below its dorsal scales, where a pale pinstripe would sit. Check where the dark sits before you buy: on the pin scales themselves it is phantom pin, outside and below them it is reverse pin.

Reverse Pinstripe is also sold as Reverse pin.

About the Reverse Pinstripe gene

Updated 6 sources

A dark line runs along the outer edge of the dorsal scales on a reverse pinstripe crested gecko. While a classic pinstripe shows a pale rim, the back of this animal is bordered by shadow. This line is pattern colour and does not have its own row of scales. The tigering of the animal is forced along the edge of the pin.

Appearance

The dark stripe is located beneath the raised dorsal scales on the outside where the laterals start and goes down both sides of the back. Check the position of the dark colour when looking at a listing. For a reverse pin the dark line is below and outside the pin scales. On a phantom pinstripe the colours on the sides and back are muted while the pin scales are the darker row. One does not mean the other even though the two often turn up on the same animal and get confused. Because strong pattern colour on a pinstriped gecko gets pushed down below the pins, the line can also show on heavily patterned animals.

Genetics

Listings use Reverse Pinstripe and Pos Reverse Pinstripe. No inheritance mode is settled for it, and it is best read as an interaction rather than a gene. Tiger organises pattern into vertical bands while Pinstripe organises it along the length of the body, and the two compete for the dorsal edge. If the tiger is pushed along the pin edge, it forms reverse pin. The result is called brindle where pin breaks and shifts the tiger bands along the mid-lateral line. Because it forms where pinning meets tiger, it belongs with the Pinstripe, Partial Pinstripe and Pin-dashed listings, and with the tigering that is fixed to some degree in every crested gecko.
