Stranger Royal Pythons for sale in the UK

The Stranger morph makes a royal python head chocolate-brown to near black while the body gets burnt orange alien heads over heavy blushing. Although a presumed super has been shown, it has not been bred out yet. Ask what any animal sold as one has produced.

Royal pythons are also known as ball pythons - UK keepers use both names.

About the Stranger gene

Updated 7 sources

The royal python (ball python) has a dark gene called Stranger. This gene turns the head a deep brown or near black when a single copy is present. It also fills the body with warm, heavily blushed alien heads. This means the gene darkens a combo but keeps orange in the pattern. Breeding with Clown is still common as it was found in a Clown project.

Appearance

With a dark chocolate-brown to nearly black head, this snake has a warm-toned look. Burnt orange to chocolate alien heads cover the body. A dorsal stripe runs down the back while intense blushing appears along the black puzzle pattern between the heads. The tail follows the same pattern as the body. Because its dark chocolate-brown look is close enough to Mahogany's, the two are often compared.

Genetics

One copy of Stranger is visible. It is not yet proven if it is dominant or incomplete dominant (what the hobby loosely calls co-dom). The breeder who found it saw it behave at least as a dominant. A presumed Super Stranger shown in 2022 has not been bred out to prove a distinct two-copy form. Because listings use both Stranger and Super Stranger, ask the seller what any animal offered as the super has produced. It is suspected, but not proven, that Stranger is allelic with Mahogany. Combinations with names include Stranger Clown, Pastel Stranger, Butter Pastel Stranger and Stranger Yellow Belly. The first two Strangers hatched in 2012 for Roland van den Oever of IRES Reptiles, from a Butter Pastel male bred to a Clown female.
