Het Cryptic Royal Pythons for sale in the UK
Cryptic breaks a royal python's body pattern into heavy banding with thin, erratic alien heads and brightens the head with a pale stamp on top. It sits at the same gene as Clown, so a snake with one copy of each is a visual Crypton rather than a plain double het.

About the Cryptic gene
The royal python (ball python) has a recessive pattern gene called Cryptic. It is one of two members of the Clown complex. This gene changes the pattern and the head more than it changes the colour. For a breeder, its value comes from both the visual and its partner gene.
Appearance
The head has a brighter colour than a normal one and features a lighter stamp on the top that is usually shaped like the Triforce from Zelda. Because the neck is usually striped and the eye stripes are missing, a visual Cryptic is easy to spot once you know where to look. The dorsal carries heavy banding down the body. Along the flanks, the alien heads are thinner and more erratic than those of a normal, and their "eyes" open into large single hoops. The tail follows the pattern of the body but has less banding.
Genetics
Because Cryptic is recessive, a Het Cryptic, 50% Het Cryptic, 66% Het Cryptic or Pos Het Cryptic looks like a normal royal python on its own, and no super form exists. It sits in the Clown complex and is allelic with Clown. A snake carrying one copy of each is a visual animal in its own right and is sold as a Crypton. This means an unproven het Clown or het Cryptic is worth asking about before pairing. The NERD line, Amur and Gizmo are proven lines. The last two carry the same mutation and are Cryptic, though they trade under their own names. A shed-skin genetic test exists for the gene so a het can be confirmed without breeding it out.
