Confusion Royal Pythons for sale in the UK

Confusion breaks a royal python's pattern into black, granite-like markings, with a dark head and messy alien heads down the tail. Hatchlings start bright yellow and that yellow fades with age, so the adult will look darker than its first photos.

Royal pythons are also known as ball pythons - UK keepers use both names.

About the Confusion gene

Updated 2 sources

The royal python (ball python) has a dominant pattern gene called Confusion. This gene changes normal markings into a jumble of black that looks like granite. As hatchlings grow, their bright yellow fades to leave a busier, darker adult. You can find it in designer work with Enchi, Lavender Albino, Fire and Clown.

Appearance

The head is very dark brown or black, with a lighter, splattered stamp in the centre. Down the body the alien heads run from banded to splattered, set in a jet black puzzle pattern. On the tail, messy alien heads crowd both sides of the dorsal stripe. Taken together the pattern reads as granite. The yellow in a young animal's ground colour fades as it gets older, so a Confusion bought as a hatchling will not stay as bright as it looked at a few weeks old.

Genetics

Confusion is dominant: one copy is enough to show. Super Confusion is the name for a two-copy animal, but how it differs from a single-copy Confusion has not been described, so ask the seller how a Super Confusion was proven. Its granite look has led to a suspected link with Acid and Static, but that link is unproven. Named combinations include Butter Super Enchi Confusion, Confusion Spotnose Yellowbelly Clown, Lavender Albino Confusion, Fire Confusion Batman and Confusion Leopard Lavender Pin. Willi Obermayer and Stefan Wieser of Austrian Reptiles first produced it in 2012.
