Cinnamon Royal Pythons for sale in the UK

Cinnamon swaps a royal python's golds and yellows for warm browns over a near-chocolate ground, and many animals are hard to tell from a Black Pastel. The two share one locus, so pairing a Cinnamon with a Black Pastel or another Cinnamon needs thought before it is made.

Cinnamon is also sold as Cinnamon Pastel, Cinny. Royal pythons are also known as ball pythons - UK keepers use both names.

About the Cinnamon gene

Updated 9 sources

The Cinnamon gene in royal pythons (ball pythons) swaps out normal yellows and golds for warm browns. A dark, almost chocolate background sits behind the reddish tones that gave it its name. Because it darkens any combination it is added to, it appears in many designer combinations.

Appearance

A Cinnamon displays tones of cream, tan and brown where a normal would have yellow and gold. Its neck fades into a dark brown head. A thick dorsal stripe runs down the body with a heavy chain on either side of it, and the tail carries this same chain. The belly is usually clear and bright white, though it can have light spotting along the edges.

The pattern can vary a lot. Many individuals look very like a Black Pastel, making it hard to separate the two by eye. Other animals are close to black across the back, while some stay red-brown.

A Super Cinnamon is a snake with a pale belly and no pattern, and it is solid dark brown to near-black.

Genetics

Cinnamon is incomplete dominant. One copy results in a Cinnamon, while two copies give a visually distinct Super Cinnamon. Many keepers still use the name "co-dom", which is the looser name for the same behaviour. It is part of the 8 Ball complex with Black Pastel, Enchi, Huffman, Jolt, Razor and Het Red Axanthic. Most keepers know Black Pastel as the partner. An animal carrying Cinnamon and Black Pastel together is sold as an 8 Ball. Other named combinations are Pewter (Pastel and Cinnamon), Cinna Bee (Spider), Cinna Belly (Yellow Belly), Firemon (Fire), Lithium (Butter) and Cinnamel (Caramel Albino). Greg Graziani first produced it in 2002. It was first sold as Cinnamon Pastel, but the Pastel was later dropped to keep it apart from Black Pastel.

Known issues

The concern in this family sits on the super, not on a single-copy Cinnamon. Super Cinnamon is linked to structural defects such as kinking, and a deformed, duckbilled face is common in it. BaskMarket applies REPTA's Deleterious Gene Policy, so Super Cinnamon is prohibited for sale here and any listing carrying it is refused. Because Cinnamon shares its locus with Black Pastel, pairing a Cinnamon with another Cinnamon or with a Black Pastel can put two copies from that complex into one animal. Cinnamon listings carry our written breeding guidance on this, and you confirm you have read it before you enquire. Severity varies between individuals - please research the morph and ask the seller about this specific animal before buying.
