Het Axanthic (VPI) Royal Pythons for sale in the UK
The Axanthic (VPI) morph removes the red and yellow from a royal python. This leaves a snake with a normal pattern made of grey, white and black. You should check the line before breeding with one. It will not produce visual axanthics when bred with TSK, Jolliff or MJ animals.

About the Axanthic (VPI) gene
The axanthic (VPI) line traces back to Vida Preciosa International. This royal python (ball python) lacks yellow and red pigment. It appears in black, greys and white, making it a clean base for monochrome combos. Because it is a common gene in the hobby, check the line on the paperwork when buying. The axanthic lines do not work together.
Appearance
Because the gene takes away colour but leaves the pattern alone, a VPI Axanthic has the same pattern variation as a normal royal python. This pattern is drawn in black over grey and silver rather than brown and gold. The layout of the head matches a normal one but without the earthy tones. On the body, alien heads often have reduced markings with a pale blush running along the black puzzle pattern. A dorsal stripe has blank alien heads on either side, and the tail follows the body's colouring. When placed side by side with a normal, the missing yellow is the cue because there is no gold anywhere on the animal.
Genetics
The Axanthic (VPI) is a recessive trait, meaning any individual that is not a visual looks like a normal royal python. This family includes Axanthic (VPI), Het Axanthic (VPI), 50% Het Axanthic (VPI), 66% Het Axanthic (VPI) and Pos Het Axanthic (VPI). You cannot tell a het by eye. A genetic test for the VPI gene is available and is how you confirm an unproven animal.
Royal pythons have several axanthic lines. These are not allelic and include the most worked lines, TSK, VPI, Jolliff and MJ. If you pair a VPI Axanthic with a TSK Axanthic or any other line, the young will look normal but carry both genes. Keep your records separate and list and buy by line.
The gene makes the Snow when paired with Albino. It makes the True Ghost with Ghost. It makes the Lavender Snow with Lavender Albino. Pastel Spider Axanthic (VPI) is sold as the Zebra Bee. Because each of those is a name for a multi-gene animal, you should tag the constituent genes when you list one.
The founding animal was acquired in 1990 by Vida Preciosa International, which is owned by Dave and Tracy Barker. They first produced visual axanthics from it in 1997.
