About the Hyper Xanthic gene
The Hyper Xanthic is a leopard gecko line bred to have as much yellow as possible while keeping the black markings for contrast. JMG Reptile built this from one odd hatchling and selected for heavier black spotting and brighter yellow over many generations. Because buying the name means buying into a bloodline instead of a single mutation, the line behind the animal matters as much as the label on it.
Appearance
The Hyper Xanthic features a heavy wash of near-fluorescent yellow and velvet black spotting across the body and head. JMG bred this specific combination on purpose. Because the goal was contrast as much as colour, the project was different from the start and is separate from the plainer High Yellow look. The yellow runs across the body and into the base of the tail on the best examples.
Genetics
The Hyper Xanthic is polygenic. It was made by JMG Reptile, which is run by Jeff Sr and Jr Galewood, through selective breeding over many generations rather than one single gene. You will find it listed as Hyper Xanthic and Pos Hyper Xanthic. There is no Super or Het form and no complex or allelic partner. Jeff Galewood Jr has said an outcrossed Hyper Xanthic still strongly shapes the colour of its offspring. It is most often worked into White & Yellow and other yellow projects.
