About the Firebold gene
Rather than being one single mutation, Firebold is a Tangerine Bold leopard gecko bloodline. It was started by the Italian breeder Carlo Maia with a male from an Electric Bandit cross. He then worked him into other tangerine lines including Redstripe, Hyper Xanthic and Afghan Tangerine. In 2013, Geckoboa took the project on. They added Bandit lines and their own Gecko Genetics and have bred it ever since.
Appearance
Firebold sits in the Bold Stripe family, and many animals show that family's striping. Firebold Tangerines have an intense orange base with yellow highlights and bold patterning.
Genetics
Firebold is polygenic. Rather than coming from one gene passed down whole, its look comes from selective breeding across several tangerine and stripe lines. Because this is a bred line rather than a single-gene trait, the catalogue carries Firebold and Pos Firebold, with no Super or Het form. Under both Bold and Tangerine, Morphpedia lists it as a proven line. These are the two families that Carlo Maia's and Geckoboa's crosses drew on. Other tangerine lines are also crossed with Firebold. One of the more established combinations in the trade is Firebold x Firewater, which pairs it with the Rainwater-albino Firewater tangerine line.
