Clown Leopard Geckos
A Clown is a tangerine leopard gecko with an orange to red stripe along the back, which often has a green emerine cast and rusty markings. Because this line produces many different looks, you should judge the gecko in the photograph instead of the name on the listing.
About the Clown gene
Bred from the G Project, the Clown is a tangerine leopard gecko line crossed into high-contrast Electric tangerines. Because it was chosen for several looks at once, two Clowns can look quite different. You are buying the animal in front of you instead of a predictable outcome.
Appearance
A Clown usually has a bold stripe pattern with an orange to red stripe going down the back and onto the tail, whether it is full or broken. The belly and head look like those of a normal. Although the stripe can break up and some outcrosses result in a jungle pattern, a Clown should not be banded. You will see rusty red markings with emerine green worked through the colour in many. Because the line varies so much, judge the colour and the stripe on the gecko itself.
Genetics
The Clown is polygenic. This means the line is held together by selective breeding instead of a single gene. Because of this, there is no het and no super form. You will find it listed as Clown and Pos Clown, and it is also sold as Joker and as Clown G. The lines of A&M Jungle Giant, HQ Red Stripe and Emerine sit behind it. It also contains the Albey, Nieves, A&M and Electric tangerine lines, with some Bold Bandit in the newer animals. It is counted among the established emerine lines. Clown crosses with Inferno are sold too. Separate pages exist for G Project, Electric, Emerine and Inferno. Matt Baronak started the project at SaSobek Reptiles in 2012.
