Bold Stripe Leopard Geckos
A Bold Stripe has more black pigment than a normal and features a clear band of light, unpatterned colour along its back between two dark lines. Because Stripe quality varies a lot even within one clutch, you should buy the animal in the photograph instead of the name on the listing.
About the Bold Stripe gene
A Bold Stripe leopard gecko is a line-bred animal built on two features: a clean light stripe running down the back between two lines of dark pigment, and dark, heavy markings. This is one of the base striped lines of the hobby. A good share of the named pattern projects started from it.
Appearance
A wide band of unpatterned ground colour, which is usually yellow, runs down the middle of the back. Dark lines frame this band on both sides to give the morph its name. These markings are the "bold" in the name because they are deeper and darker than on a normal leopard gecko, which gives a good one its contrast. The expression varies more than the name suggests. Because clutches from striped parents can include jungles, fully striped animals, and geckos with a banded tail and a striped body, judge the stripe on the gecko you are buying rather than on its parents.
Genetics
The Bold Stripe is polygenic. Because this look is held together by selective breeding instead of a single gene, there is no super form and no het. You can find it listed as Bold Stripe and Pos Bold Stripe. People still argue over how it is inherited. One long-running project sees incomplete dominant tendencies in the stripe and some breeders see a recessive element. Neither has been proven, so breeders work it as a selected line. There are several named lines under the Bold Stripe heading, such as R2, Halloween Mask, GGG, Firebold and Bandit. Firebold is the tangerine spin-off.
