Blood Emerine Leopard Geckos
The Blood Emerine is bred to hold two colours at once, the green tones of the Emerine and the deep, near-red orange of JMG Reptile's Blood tangerines. Because the name depends on the lines behind the gecko, you should ask for the parents.
About the Blood Emerine gene
The Blood Emerine is a leopard gecko bred on a line to keep the Emerine green tones while pushing the deep tangerine colour of the Blood line from JMG Reptile. For that specific mix, keepers buy one to get a hot orange body that carries patches of green.
Appearance
The Blood side provides the orange. These Bloods have a deep orange body with a tint that is nearly red. Most have very little orange on the head to make the body colour stand out. The Emerine side is where the green comes from. A greenish cast appears on parts of the tail, body or head: a greenish yellow or orange with a bruised, bluish undertone. It is most often seen on the neck, the sides, and the base of the tail, while green running down the tail itself is less common. Emerine was coined by Ron Tremper for a gecko that showed Tangerine and Emerald on the body as an adult, so the name describes the colour of the adult. A Blood Emerine can carry any pattern, including striped, reverse stripe, jungle and banded.
Genetics
Because Blood Emerine is a polygenic line, no het or super form exists. It is listed as Blood Emerine and Pos Blood Emerine, and is also called Emerald Blood. Two lines with their own pages make up the mix. These are Blood, which is JMG Reptile's tangerine line from 2002, and Emerine, which is Tremper's green line that first appeared in his collection in 2004. It is one of the named emerine lines along with Clown, Green & Tangerine, Sykes Emerine, Pacific Green, and G Project. The origin of an emerine defines it as much as its colour, so ask the seller which lines stand behind the animal.
