Albino (Tremper) Leopard Geckos
The Tremper albino morph removes the black from a leopard gecko to leave behind tans, browns, oranges and yellows with pale silvery eyes. While it looks almost exactly like the Bell and Rainwater albinos, it will not make albinos with them. Therefore, the look is less important than the line on paper.
About the Albino (Tremper) gene
The Tremper albino takes away the black pigment from a leopard gecko but leaves every other trait. This means the animal shows yellows, oranges and browns without any dark spotting. Because it was the first albino strain of the hobby and remains the most common, it sits under so many of the combination morphs you will meet.
Appearance
The body colour of these animals varies a great deal and runs from dark brown through tan to light yellow, orange and pink. A Tremper albino never shows black. You can tell an albino from a normal by their silvery eyes laced with red veins, which are the quickest way to tell. The eyes will not tell you which albino you are looking at, though. Because Tremper, Bell and Rainwater animals overlap so completely in eye tone and colour, nobody can separate them reliably by eye.
Genetics
Because Tremper albino is recessive, a het looks like a normal leopard gecko. You will find the family includes Albino (Tremper), Het Albino (Tremper), 50% Het Albino (Tremper), 66% Het Albino (Tremper) and Pos Het Albino (Tremper). Bell and Rainwater are separate albino genes, so the three strains are incompatible. If you breed a Tremper to a Bell, the offspring will look normal and carry both genes, but there will be no albinos. Buy on records and keep lines apart. You can find Tremper in Diablo Blanco, which adds Blizzard, and in RAPTOR (Red-eye Albino Patternless Tremper Orange) which is built with Eclipse. It also appears in Tangelo with Tangerine, in Blazing Blizzard with Blizzard, and in Sunglow with Super Hypo and Tangerine. The gene surfaced in 1996 when a female from a wild-imported mother was found to be albino. Ron Tremper then proved it through her brother, Bubba, and he hatched his first albinos in April 1999.
Known issues
Because Tremper albino eyes do not have the pigment to filter light, they are sensitive to bright light. These snakes can also be stressed by long spells under strong lighting.
