Afghan Tangerine Leopard Geckos
The Afghan Tangerine is a leopard gecko with a deep orange colour. It keeps its dark markings while purple-blue tones show through the body colour. Mateusz Hajdas of Ultimate Geckos started the work of crossing the wild Afghan subspecies into Super Hypo Tangerine stock. He also built the Green & Tangerine line.
About the Afghan Tangerine gene
By breeding the Afghan subspecies, Eublepharis macularius afghanicus, into Super Hypo Tangerine stock, the Afghan Tangerine leopard gecko line was made. This pairing of dark pattern and tangerine colour is what you are paying for, as you get a saturated orange animal that keeps its black markings.
Appearance
The body of an adult Afghan Tangerine features irregular black markings across an orange to orange-yellow base. There are purple-blue undertones beneath the orange.
Genetics
The Afghan Tangerine is polygenic. Because no single gene is behind this selectively bred line, there is no super form and no het. You can also buy animals as Pos Afghan Tangerine. This is one of the named tangerine lines. Its ancestry includes wild-type Afghan leopard geckos, which are a subspecies from Afghanistan, and Tangerine stock on the other side. Mateusz Hajdas of Ultimate Geckos in Poland developed this line. He also built the Green & Tangerine line.
