RBE Pastel Hognoses
Yellow tones from RBE Pastel flood the background of a western hognose while making the pattern sharper against it. Because hatchlings look only slightly paler than their normal clutchmates, the colour appears after the second shed.
About the RBE Pastel gene
The RBE Pastel is a western hognose colour gene. It makes the background more yellow and cleaner, which gives the pattern more contrast than a normal. This gene is also sold as Yellow Pastel.
Appearance
A normal has less yellow in the ground colour than this one. This cleaner ground colour makes the saddles stand out sharply. Because hatchlings are only a little lighter than their normal siblings, it is easy to overlook a young one. The colour strengthens in both the pattern and the background after the second shed. As the snake matures, it keeps brightening.
Genetics
RBE Pastel is traded as a dominant gene and was introduced as such, but because MorphMarket's Morphedia classes it as polygenic, you should treat its mode as unsettled. An animal that may be an RBE Pastel but has not been proven is called a Pos RBE Pastel. A Vanilla Cherry is the name for RBE Pastel combined with Toffee Belly. Because Pink Pastel Albino is a separate recessive gene, a Pink Pastel is not an albino RBE Pastel. The RBE in the name refers to Reptiles Breeding Enterprise, the breeder that first produced it.
