RBE Pastel Hognoses

RBE Pastel pushes a western hognose's background towards yellow and sharpens the pattern against it, with the colour coming on after the second shed. The name is a breeder's initials, not a description, so don't mix it up with Pink Pastel Albino.

About the RBE Pastel gene

RBE Pastel is a western hognose snake morph that pushes the background towards yellow and cleans up the pattern against it. It is also called Yellow Pastel.

Appearance

The background carries a lot of yellow, and the cleaner ground gives the pattern more contrast than a normal hognose shows. Hatchlings look only a little lighter than their normal siblings. The change comes after the second shed, when the background and the pattern both colour up, and the yellow keeps getting more visible with age.

Genetics

Whether RBE Pastel is a simple dominant gene or a polygenic look is unsettled. Dominant is the usual label and polygenic the other classification, so ask a seller what an animal has actually produced before paying for breeding potential. Pos RBE Pastel labels a possible RBE Pastel that has not been confirmed. Pink Pastel Albino is an unrelated recessive gene, so a Pink Pastel is not an albino RBE Pastel. Vanilla Cherry is RBE Pastel combined with Toffee Belly. RBE stands for Reptiles Breeding Enterprise, the breeder that first produced it.
