Pos Jaguar Hognoses
The Jaguar morph breaks the western hognose saddles into irregular markings that are darker at the edges and paler toward the middle. Because the amount of this trait varies from animal to animal, you should judge a Jaguar or Pos Jaguar by its photographs rather than its name.
About the Pos Jaguar gene
The western hognose snake has a pattern morph called Jaguar. This morph breaks the dorsal saddles into markings with irregular, dark edges.
Appearance
The saddles on a Jaguar have darker edges that fade toward the centre. Unlike the even line of blotches on a normal, the run of saddles on a Jaguar is broken and aberrant. Because expression varies from animal to animal, some worked lines show a more regular version of the pattern than others. A Jaguar or Pos Jaguar should be judged on its photographs as the name alone does not tell you how much pattern an animal shows.
Genetics
There are two forms of this: Jaguar and Pos Jaguar, and there is no het. The way Jaguar is passed on is not settled. Breeders sell it as a polygenic, line-bred look, as incomplete dominant (the hobby's looser "co-dom"), or as dominant. It has been combined with albino, and the name is shortened to Jag by keepers.
