About the Pos Jaguar gene
Jaguar is a pattern morph in the western hognose snake, with dark-edged, pale-centred saddles broken up into irregular markings. Pos Jaguar is the possible form of it, for an animal from Jaguar stock that may or may not show the pattern.
Appearance
A Jaguar hognose has an aberrant pattern: the dorsal saddles are outlined darker on the outside and lighter in the centre, and they look split or broken rather than the even blotches of a normal. How strongly that shows varies from one animal to the next. A Pos Jaguar may carry the full pattern, a weak version of it, or none, and the label does not say which, so the photographs are the only reliable guide.
Genetics
How Jaguar is inherited has not been settled: it is called dominant, incomplete dominant and line bred, depending on who you ask. With the mode still open, the odds of Jaguar offspring from any pairing cannot be stated with confidence. Listings use Pos for line-bred and polygenic traits because a pairing cannot predict the result. The family has two forms, Jaguar and Pos Jaguar, with no Het Jaguar between them. Jaguar is combined with other morphs and sold as Jaguar Albino Anaconda and Arctic Jaguar Conda, among others.
