White Wall Crested Geckos

A white band of cream or white runs along the lower sides of a White Wall crested gecko. This band is cut off sharply from the base colour above it as if it were painted on. This is a harlequin-type pattern taken to its extreme.

Appearance

The wall is an unbroken stretch from the front limbs to the back limbs over the lower laterals, reaching up the sides to about the mid-lateral line. You should see a distinct line for the top edge against the base colour. If that line is missing, the animal is an extreme harlequin or a harlequin rather than a White Wall. White or cream is frequently found on raised scales. Some White Walls are tricolour because they include a second pattern colour, while others are two-colour with just base and white. On black, red, yellow, and dark bases, walls appear and often sit next to pinstripe on the back.

Genetics

Many listings call White Wall "co-dom" even though it is incomplete dominant. The gene Whiteout was first named by Anthony Caponetto of AC Reptiles. A Whiteout gecko might show a lower expression that is subtle enough to pass unnoticed, while White Wall is the extreme form. A White Wall is the homozygous Whiteout in Caponetto's own account. Nobody describes a super beyond the wall itself, so ask the seller what a gecko listed as Super White Wall was bred from. White Out is its own entry, while listings use White Wall and Super White Wall. The name came from Matt Parks of Pangea Reptile and Caponetto, whose walls first appeared from pairing his male Harry with the original Soft Scale.
