Piebald Chameleons for sale in the UK

Piebald is a veiled chameleon trait that leaves the colour in patches on white or clear skin. It is often sold as Pied, and much of the trade uses Pied for Translucent veileds too. A listing that says Pied does not tell you which of the two you are looking at.

Appearance

Expect white, pink and black alongside the usual greens and yellows. The skin between the patches is white or see-through, and how much of it an animal shows varies widely. Sellers label the amount low white or high white.

Genetics

Piebald is recessive, so a Het Piebald looks like any other veiled chameleon. Translucent, also listed as Hypo, is a separate trait. It is incomplete dominant, which the trade calls "co-dom", and a single copy already shows. Because Pied is used loosely for both, not every line sold under that name behaves as a recessive. Before paying for piebald breeding stock, ask the seller which trait the animal's line carries.
