About the Nosy Faly gene

Nosy Faly is a panther chameleon locale, a geographic population rather than a gene, and its males are known for white. Keepers buy it for a pale, icy animal crossed by hard dark bars.

Appearance

A male has a white to pale blue body with bold dark blue or near-black bars, and turquoise on the face, lips and casque. Depending on the line, some males show yellow tints or fine red speckling. Juveniles are greyish brown with faint patterning and show little of the adult colour. Females stay peach, tan or brown for life, as in every locale.

Genetics

No inheritance mode applies. The white belongs to the population, so there is no het to carry and no super form to breed towards. Panther chameleon locales are distinct populations: a 2015 study of 324 wild animals found strong genetic structure and restricted gene flow between geographically separate groups. Designer crosses between locales sell at premium prices, but a Nosy Faly cross is a mixed animal and belongs under neither locale's name. Ask which locales stand behind both parents.
