About the Monster Tail gene
Started by Jeff Ronne of The Boaphile, Monster Tail is a bloodline of boa constrictor rather than a single-gene morph. Breeders use it as a background line behind other traits while keepers buy it for the tail.
Appearance
The name of this line comes from the tail. This is where the difference is seen because the saddle area over the tail is often more prominent than on an ordinary boa. There is no other fixed look to check. In Ronne's own words, it is a bloodline name and nothing more. The label tells you where an animal comes from rather than what it will look like. You should judge the tail in the photographs of the animal on offer.
Genetics
Because Monster Tail is a selectively bred line instead of a gene, there is no super form and no het. A seller tags each trait an animal carries, so names like Monster Tail Hypo, Monster Tail Hypo Jungle and Pastel Dream Monster Tail describe animals carrying several traits, not separate morphs. It is often worked in behind other traits. Animals are listed as Monster Tail, or as Pos Monster Tail where the ancestry is possible but not settled.
