Blood Boa Constrictors
A Blood boa hatches close to solid blood red and darkens into a burnt-orange adult that keeps its red background colour. It is kept as a small line, with males around four feet and females rarely past five or six feet.
About the Blood gene
Blood is a boa constrictor gene that saturates the animal in deep orange and red pigment. It traces to a red boa found in El Salvador and owned by Ron St. Pierre, and it is a common building block in designer combos. A Blood gives you a colour line that stays small.
Appearance
A visual Blood hatches close to solid blood red and darkens with age into a deeper burnt orange, still keeping that red background colour. The head is blunt and the eyes are dark. Blood is kept as a dwarf line: males usually reach about four feet, and females rarely pass five or six.
Genetics
Blood is recessive, so a visual needs two copies and anything short of a visual looks like a normal boa constrictor. The family runs from a visual Blood through Het Blood, 66% Het Blood, 50% Het Blood and Pos Het Blood, with no super form and no known complex. Ron St. Pierre first produced Blood from a red boa found in El Salvador; the year is not recorded. In designer combos, Red Dragon pairs it with Albino (Kahl), Sun Dragon adds Hypo to that pairing, Bloody Ghost pairs it with Hypo and Anerythristic (Type 2), and Pewter pairs it with Anerythristic (Type 2) alone.
