About the Desert Ghost gene
A Desert Ghost looks better as an adult than as a hatchling. Colour settles towards an almost uniform grey with a slight yellow-gold cast.
Visual expression is carried by more than one gene: DGa and DGb, with evidence that a third, DGc, also feeds into whether an animal comes out visual. A genetic test for Desert Ghost exists. On a het or possible het, that is the thing to ask a seller about, because the label on the listing is all you are buying.
It is recessive, so anything other than a visual looks like a normal ball python. The catalogue carries Desert Ghost, Het Desert Ghost, 50% Het Desert Ghost, 66% Het Desert Ghost and Pos Het Desert Ghost. DG and Bell Line DG are both in use as names for it.
